Wonder Bread Premiums
- Between 1973 and 1975 Topps issued three runs of stickers that were given away in bags of Wonder Bread. All stickers had plain tan backs.
- The first release had 24 titles, all from series 1-3.
- These are easily distinguishable from the originals by the fact that they have different copyrights. Wonderbread stickers all say "Topps Chewing Gum Inc" spelled out, while original 1-3 series stickers have copyright "T.C.G.".
- See the 1st sheet
- The second release had 32 titles, all from series 1-7.
- The titles in this release are harder to distinguish from the originals because they have the same copyright. There are at least six that can be easily distinguished by their die-cuts, Lavirus, Boo-Hoo, My Sink, Shot Wheels, Blunder Bread, and Sugar Daffy.
- The Boo-Hoo and Blunder Bread variations: Boo-Hoo and Blunder Bread appeared in both the 1st and 2nd Wonderbread issue. They are both distinguishable from the original by the fact that the first Wonderbreads have the "Topps Chewing Gum" copyright while the second Wonderbreads have the die-cut variation (see the Boo-Hoo and Blunder die-cut variations).
- See the 2nd sheet
- The third release had 16 titles, all from series 7-10.
- As in the 2nd release, all titles have the same copyrights as the originals. We have yet to determine exactly what are the die-cut differences, this will be posted when we figure it out.
- see the 3rd sheet. This sheet, auctioned by Topps Vault in 2004 in two halves, has "Feb 1975" written on it in grease pencil.
- True count: Combining the three releases, there were 70 different titles, if you count the two Boo-Hoo and Blunder Bread variations then there are 72 total. Many of the 2nd and 3rd Wonderbreads are not distinguishable from the originals, so in order to get a true set you usually have to know where it came from. Since many sets were taken home by employees of the factory, quite a few pedigreed sets do exist in the hobby.
- The uncut sheets are unique among all Wacky sheets in that they have 16 rows by 10 columns, and issue 2 and 3 are the only Wacky Pack sheets known that have upside-down titles.
- A promo poster for the Wonderbread Wackys has been found. It seems likely there was also some indication of Wackys on the bags the bread came in, but to date nobody has turned one of those up.
- For those titles that are indistinguishable from the originals by their die-cuts, there are several theories that have bandied around as to how to tell the difference.
- One sure fire way to know an original is if it has two asterisks, Wonder Bread stickers always have one asterisk.
- If the sticker is greasy then it is likely a Wonderbread.
- It has been theorized is that if it has a faint blue line indicating where the die-cut should be, then it is a Wonder Bread. This theory has never really been proven, but seems to carry some weight.
